I dislike…

General 3 Comments »

Lame, ugly people.

I dislike people who think that they are better than others. That somehow believe they are a part of some exclusive, elite group. Don’t get me wrong - I’m all for people thinking high of themselves. However, to think that you are better than someone else because of who you associate with, or the activities you take part in, is absolutely absurd.

What I hate more, is when said people, are actually physically UNATTRACTIVE. I mean, if you’re going to be a pretentious asswipe, at least look good while doing it! I understand that no one has chosen their looks, so I can’t fully blame you for looking as though you’re lacking a chromosome or four, however, one would think that given your shortcomings with the looks, you’d try to make up with your personality.

However, some people just can’t get off their damn high-horse long enough to realise that they’re absolutely worthless. I wish some people had the depth of character to stand up for what they believe in, and just not follow a group. It’s quite pathetic.

Obviously this blog is targeted at a particular person/group of people, so it may not make sense to anyone else reading it. I just thought I’d put that out there, because I also hate seeing these people directly. Makes me want to choke the life out of them.

I think that I’m going to buy a heavy bag. Writing this blog doesn’t release the frustrations that I feel towards said person/people.

SERIOUSLY!!

Skitch + EPL = Awesome!

Football No Comments »

Just a quick post using my favourite app, Skitch, to bring you the good news of this weekend’s English Premier League action:

First, we show the score in the Man Utd vs Arsenal game:

Next, here we have Chelsea vs nearly bottom of the league Wigan :)

Ahh, soo beautiful. I love the interaction between Skitch and MarsEdit, where I can just drag the capture from Skitch straight into my blog entry. Awesome (just like the score lines)

Leopard vs Moody Router

I’ve been using the image sharing application Skitch for quite a while now and I absolutely love it. I find that it’s a great way just to quickly capture and show someone anything that’s on your screen. I use it to create little how-tos for my friends when they are having issues and they needed a little help, and sometimes I just use it to capture the picture of the score line after Manchester United defeated Arsenal =).

I was having one major problem, however - I was unable to web post while on my home network. During the day, while at the office, I was able to upload photos with no problems at all, however, when I got home and tried, I would get a web post error, followed by the Skitch application crashing. Not good.

I emailed the Plasq support team, and they quickly responded to me (which was great because I am a very impatient person when it comes to issues such as this one), and after I sent them the error log, they told me to try something that I wouldn’t have thought of trying at all - setting my MacBook Pro to use OpenDNS servers instead of using the DNS information given by the router. I tried this and… it worked! Apparently, Leopard and my router just don’t like each other. I realised other applications were having problems, such as Adium, but I just chalked it up to maybe a bad installation.

Well, I’ve got everything working correctly now, and I’m very thankful to the Plasq team for their quick and accurate response on the issue.

Sharing Large Files

File Sharing, Internet Services 3 Comments »

This is pretty cool for people who like to share large files over the internet, found this site that allows you to share a file of up to 5GB in size. That’s pretty amazing.

The website is called File Dropper. So check it out if you need a service like this.

dotMac (The Free Version)

Apple, Linux No Comments »

I considered buying an Apple .Mac account to host my files and blog instead of using my Godaddy hosting, just because it integrated better with my Macbook Pro. I could post blogs directly through iWeb, post photos from iPhoto, and videos from iMovie. I’d also get a cool @mac.com email address. This would run be roughly $100US/year. My Godaddy hosting is $75/yr.
Even though the Godaddy is reasonably cheaper, I’d have to say the convenience of ‘click to publish’ with .Mac certainly is worth the extra $25/yr, however I didn’t like the feeling of being locked into something like that; if I started using it, especially for email, I’d have to pay the recurring charge or lose my email address.

I started looking into free alternatives to Apple’s .Mac and I came across an open source, free in-development solution called dotMac. Now this isn’t for the novice user, as it requires the setup of a *nix server, and definite configuration file editing, but it does show a lot of promise. It is not a full .Mac replacement as yet, as there is no full iLife synching as yet. However, for the price you’re paying (free), it’s definitely worth a try.

I have it on my old PC that I converted to a Ubuntu server, and I intend to follow this project for a while to see how it turns out. I’d actually like to try to help out in the future if I can find the time.

Got The iPhone SDK; Cocoa Development

Apple, Programming No Comments »

After watching the March 6th event yesterday, (you can watch it here if you want), I was pretty much wowed by the iPhone SDK. I downloaded it yesterday, installed it but I haven’t had a chance to look at it yet. I’ve decided before I get around to that, I should give Objective-C and Cocoa development a bit of a try first.

I downloaded a couple tutorials in PDF format from the Apple Developer Connection, and so I’m working my way through them now. I’ll keep you updated as I go on.

Also, on a side note, I’m working on a special Google Gadget for iGoogle. I’ll post something on that soon.

Why Do I Keep Doing This?

I find it so difficult to settle on one task at a time, and to also define what I want to do when I start out on a task. This probably is the 12,032,159 time I’ve started to write a blog, and to be honest, I’m not sure if this will be the last time that I do work on a blog.

I’ll try to update whenever the mood strikes, but I don’t know how often that will be. I’m also thinking of investing in desktop blogging client, so that I may be more inclined to post (leaning towards MarsEdit at the moment).

So anyways, here we go… again!
